Durrett Productions

In 1949, Warren Durrett recorded his first commercial advertisement, beginning what he described as β€œan exciting facet of [his] musical life.” He founded Durrett Productions, a jingle business that flourished in the 1950s and 60s. Marilyn Maye was often a featured vocalist, and many other musical talents, such as Carol Comer, Laura Webb, Sam Tucker, and Chris Conner, were also employed to record jingles for companies including Holiday Inns, Holsum Bread, MFA Insurance, and American Royal. The company closed in 1970 after booking musicians became a greater challenge due to the success of individuals and nationally-imposed scheduling rules. His catchy melodies and snappy lyrics, however, continued to be heard for many years to follow.
